Eagles Try to Swim with the Sharks

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The No. 14 Eagles had a tough battle for third place against the No. 13 Sharks.

The men's tennis team fell just short during their match for the PacWest Championships third place standing. The doubles point was won by Hawai'i Pacific giving them an initial lead. The Sharks then kept their teeth showing as they won the No. 5 and No. 6 singles giving them a 3-0 lead. Benjamin Buck broke the streak and won for the Eagles at the No. 4 spot and gave the Eagles their first point. Jan Simon kept the momentum going for the Eagles as he won at the No. 3 spot which led to an overall score of 3-2. No. 25 Yassine Smiej, recently named to the First Team All-PacWest, won at the No. 1 singles position which tied the game up at 3-3. The No. 2 singles was a battle as it went to three sets and finished last, unfortunately the Sharks were able to swim away with the win.

The Eagles will now await and see if they make the Regional Tournament which will take place in early May. For the full Eagle Schedule CLICK HERE.
