No. 16 Eagles Dominate in Singles

IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 20 women's tennis team came back from behind to earn the win against Biola 4-1.

The Green and Gold are currently 11-3 overall as they continue to dominate their opponents. In this match up against Biola it was extremely competitive and many sets were close in points. The Eagles got down early as they lost the doubles point with only Ghazal Pakbaten and Rebekah Anderson winning their set 6-3.

"Today, I feel that we bounced back after losing the doubles point and not letting it affect us in singles," said Anderson. "The energy was really great throughout and it really helped seeing my teammates crush it in singles. It definitely helped me pull out my match and it was amazing to see Gpak come back and clinch the match for us."

Heather Richards competed at the No. 4 singles spot and kicked off the winning streak for the Eagles as she was the first to win her match. Camila Tumosa won next in the No. 2 singles position as she controlled most of her match with set scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Anderson, ranked No. 44 in the nation for singles, fought hard for her win today proving her ranking. She went to three sets and took charge in the third as she won 6-1 in the final set. Pakbaten, ranked No. 36 in the nation in singles, delivered the clinching point for the Eagles! The first two sets went 6-3 and 4-6 to tie up the overall match. The third set was won by a tiebreaker as Pakbaten came back in the third set after being down 2-5.

"It was a great fight today," said Pakbaten. "I had a huge comeback from 5-2 in the third set and I saved many match points! I just thought that this is the last time playing Biola at home for me! Why not making it memorable! That is the greatness of tennis though, you can win the match at anytime!"

Looking forward the Eagles head to Point Loma on Apr. 13 for their last regular season road game. For the full schedule CLICK HERE.
