IRVINE, Calif. – On Friday, the Concordia University Irvine women's water polo team played its first home game of the 2021 season and its first contest at Woollett Aquatics Center in over a year.
With emotions running high with the chance to compete in their home pool, the Eagles also honored seniors
Dailynn Santoro and
Farrah Martin before hosting No. 14 San Diego State.
Santoro and sophomore
Kim Reidel ultimately each scored two goals to pace the CUI offense. Â Santoro recently
became the program record holder for most career goals. Â She upped that total to 97 career goals after Saturday's performance.
SDSU scored first and jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first quarter. While the Aztecs built the early advantage, the Eagles did outscore their opponents 4-3 in the final period. SDSU ultimately secured a 13-4 victory.
Tatiana Cava collected seven saves as CUI's starting goalkeeper. Raquel de Pinto came up with six stops and earned the win for SDSU.
Tamsyn Evezard also won two sprints to start the third and fourth quarters. Santoro added two steals to lead the Green and Gold in that category.
The Eagles return to action on the road this Thursday, April 15 when they travel to Chapman.
