CARSON, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team was on the road Saturday as they traveled to Carson for their Saturday matchup against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Eagles are coming off two strong overtime performances, seeking to earn their first regular-season victory.
Both teams were able to create chances offensively throughout the first half, but it was CUI that was able to strike first and put a chance in the back of the net. In the 18th minute of the game,
Olivia Ocampo managed to narrowly touch the ball out of reach of the keeper after a great first touch pass through the Toro's defense from Senior
Carmany Jones.
The chances kept coming for both teams throughout the second half, neither team allowing the other to take a break on defense. But after a quality string of passes from CUI starting from their goal,
Riley Walkington was taken down in CSUDH's box, earning an opportunity to double their lead from the spot. Walkington dusted herself off and stepped up to capitalize, scoring her first regular-season goal in an Eagle's uniform.
CUI's overall dominant performance helped
Hailey Asato earn her first clean sheet of the season and making five saves against the Toros.
The women's soccer team is on the road once again to go head to head with Cal Poly Pomona next Friday, Sept. 17th, at 7:00 p.m.
