SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team traveled south to San Marcos for Saturday's match against the Cougars. This is the Eagles fifth and final match against CCAA opponents before moving on to face PacWest conference opponents.
CUI held a dominate grip on the first half, establishing their offensive presence, outshooting the Cougars seven to four. Despite the teams heading into halftime scoreless, the Eagles proved that they were eager to find the back of the net in the next half.
Throughout the second half, CUI continued to pressure their opponents. with forwards,
Elijah Amadin and
Luca Page leading the Eagles with four shots apiece. It wasn't until the 86th minute that CUI was able to put a shot past the resilient CSUSM defense when
Luke Ryan connected with a cross, heading the ball down the center of the frame right through the keeper's hands.Â
Behind an incredible defensive performance from the Eagles, Freshman goalkeeper
Andre Flores maintained his second shutout of the season and making two saves. CUI improves their record to 2-2-1 after their win as they look forward to conference play in the coming weeks.Â
