IRVINE, Calif. – Make it three straight victories for your Concordia University Irvine Eagles.
The CUI women's basketball team never trailed on Thursday night and cruised to an 85-51 victory over Chaminade to secure its tenth win of the season in impressive fashion.
The Eagles (10-6, 7-3 PacWest) have now won five of their last six contests.
Jasmine Rachal led the way with 24 points. She was joined in double figures by teammates
Michaela VanderKlugt and
Katie Timmerman.
VanderKlugt dominated the boards and hauled down a season-high 20 rebounds to go with 17 points. It was the eighth double-double of the season
for the current PacWest Player of the Week and her most rebounds in a game since she corralled a career-high 24 against Academy of Art two season ago.
Timmerman added 11 points, seven rebounds and a team-high five assists.
Samantha Fries led all players with a +22 while on the floor and freshman
Malia Smith was also an impressive +20 in her time on the court.
Destiny Sambrano and
Sarah Christopherson combined for 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Eagles finish their busy week with a Saturday clash with the Hawaii Pacific Sharks. The women's game starts at 5 p.m. with the men to follow at 7:30 p.m. It is Homecoming week and CUI Athletics will be honoring the 2022 Hall of Fame class which includes the 2012 CUI men's basketball team that won the NAIA National Championship.
Tickets are now available for Saturday's home games. This week, CUI Athletics announced that up to 500 fans will be allowed inside CU Arena.
