AZUSA, Calif. - On Friday night, the Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team was set to face the Azusa Pacific Cougars to open the PacWest portion of the season. The Golden Eagles looked to use the lessons they learned from the non-conference matches and make a run for the league title.Â
Azusa Pacific was able to get on the board first after converting a penalty kick in the 25th minute. The Golden Eagles looked for an equalizer but both side's back lines were able to neutralize any scoring opportunities.Â
In the second half, down by a goal, the Golden Eagles continued their search for a goal late into the match. In the final minute,
Anthony Morales was able to get a shot off but it was unfortunately saved by the keeper.
The game ended in a 1-0 win for Azusa Pacific, with CUI able to take 11 shots. Morales led CUI with four shots and goalkeeper
Andre Flores kept the Cougars within reach with four saves.
The Golden Eagles will be traveling up to the Bay Area next Thursday, Oct. 6 as they look to build momentum against Holy Names and capture their first win in conference play.
