CUI Improves in Conference with Win Over Biola

Carrillo Scores a Brace in Golden Eagles Win

IRVINE, Calif. - After splitting their road matches last week against Holy Names and Fresno Pacific, the Golden Eagles return home to take on Biola in their second matchup of the season. The previous meeting between these teams saw CUI netting five goals against the Eagles in non-conference competition.

This is the twenty-second time these teams have faced off in their school's history, and the Golden Eagles head in with a five-game advantage.

The first half was a great showing from the Golden Eagles, holding off a potent Biola offense from the start. The home team collected their footing and took advantage in the 32nd minute. Jadenn Carrillo made a great play down the right side crossing a great ball into the box that Biola's keeper couldn't quite punch out, falling in front of a patient Daniela Filipovic and striking a point-blank shot into the bottom left corner. The scoring didn't stop there for the home team when Brianna Guerra floated a deep free-kick into the box, where Carrillo was able to use her head to redirect the ball past the overextended BU keeper.

The visiting Eagles cut the deficit to a single goal in the second half with a vicious strike from Frances Andrade.

It didn't take long for the Golden Eagles to respond, adding to their two-goal lead with a superb strike from Carrillo, who was free at the top of the box—assisted by Riley Walkington and Filipovic, both earning their third assists of the season. Carrillo collected her fourth goal of the season and her third in two weeks!

The Golden Eagles outshot Biola nineteen shots to seven, with eleven hitting the net's frame. BU's keepers Anna Boyer and Savanna Tavares made seven solid saves to help keep the visitors close to level.

The women's soccer team will be back at home taking on no.18 Point Loma in their rematch after besting them 2-1 in their last non-conference matchup.
