IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team outshot Hawaii Pacific on Monday by a count of 17-9.
Unfortunately, the Sharks were able to score the only goal of the match in the second half after earning a corner kick. A rebound off an initial shot created a sliver of an opening in the 61st minute for the visitors to find the back of the net.
To Concordia's credit, the Golden Eagles continue to amass good scoring chances and peppered the box.Â
Miguel Pena and
AJ Wojtiuk were among the Golden Eagles to try multiple shots along with
Alex Perez and
Ryan Smith. Â However, the Sharks did a good job of blocking those attempts in front of their keeper to fend off CUI's advances.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Andre Flores finished with three saves. Two of those stops came in the second half to keep CUI in the game.
CUI next hosts Hawaii Hilo on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. The women will play the Vulcans at 3:30 p.m. before the men's match.
Fans are encouraged to wear pink as part of a special promotion on Thursday for both soccer matches in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The first 25 students at each game (50 total) will receive a voucher for a free burger at The Habit.
