IRVINE, Calif. - Nationally ranked Hawai'i Hilo visited Irvine for a PacWest contest against the Golden Eagles on Thursday. The Golden Eagles entered the match on a three-game win streak with a record of 4-1-1, standing fourth in the conference.
The first half saw the Vulcans notching a three-goal lead early throughout the half.
Jadenn Carrillo cut the deficit to two with an impressive strike squeaking right under Hilo's crossbar. She concluded the game with eight shots and five of those threatening the visitor's keeper.
After the break, the Golden Eagles switched the momentum and put pressure on the Vulcans throughout the rest of the game. Unfortunately, CUI couldn't find the back of the net, outshooting the visitors with seventeen to nine shots at the end of the game.
Riley Walkington applied tremendous pressure in the second half, finding herself three shots and one just missing wide of the goal. The Golden Eagles back line played an outstanding second half, stopping the Vulcans numerous times in front of their net and keeping them scoreless in the last forty-five minutes.
CUI will take on their final Hawai'i conference opponent, Chaminade, on Saturday to conclude their home schedule and celebrate the seniors before the start of the game.
