AZUSA, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's volleyball team earned their seventh sweep of the PacWest conference as they competed against Azusa Pacific on Thursday night. The Golden Eagles were able to close out the sets with two of the sets coming in by just two points and final scores 25-23, 25-18, and 25-23.
Cassidy Gelacio stood out from the service line as she had four aces on the match. Gelacio and
Julia Wilson added six digs each from the back row and had a combined nine assists in just three sets. Setters
Devin Sivertson and
Michelle Feliciano had 14 and 10 assists respectively.
Senior
Kirra Schulz posted another double-double finishing the match with 11 kills and digs.
Kennedy Farley had seven kills and three blocks. Both Schulz and Farley both put up two aces throughout the match that were not returnable by the Cougars.
Ola Magiera and
Cassie Prior contributed with seven kills each and Prior with five digs. Middle
Jalyssa Sanchez had five kills and had a hitting percentage of .500. To add to Sanchez accolades from the match she also recorded four blocks which included one solo. Freshman middle
Halli Hooks came up big defensively for CUI as she had four blocks and two solo blocks.
The Cougars went on a couple runs to take the lead over the Golden Eagles to start the match but CUI slowly came back and took off at the end with a four point run to win by just two points. The Green and Gold continued their momentum into the second and another run from Gelacio extended their lead. In the third set APU took a lead over CUI until Schulz went to the service line and went on a seven point run and hitting errors from the Cougars to jump back in the lead and take the win.
The Golden Eagles will host Biola in the CU Arena on Saturday, Nov. 12 as the PacWest conference play comes to a finish. CUI will be honoring their seniors during the last home match of the season with a slated start time of 1 p.m.
