SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Three different Golden Eagles found the back of the net and
Analisa Gjonovich notched a pair of assists to lead Concordia University Irvine past Dominican on Thursday afternoon.
CUI earned a 3-1 victory over the Penguins to add three more points to their ledger in the standings.
The Golden Eagles scored all three goals in the second half after a scoreless stalemate in the first half.
Daniela Filipovic notched her fourth goal of the season to open the scoring in the 48th minute.
Layla Comeaux and Gjonovich were credited with assists on the play.
Brianna Guerra doubled the lead a little over 20 minutes later to give Concordia some extra breathing room off a pass from
Jadenn Carrillo. After Dominican sliced the lead in half to make it 2-1, Carrillo capped off the scoring with a late goal off a pass from Gjonovich to tally her seventh goal of the campaign.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Penguins 13-5 and keeper
Riley Urquiza collected a save in the victory.
CUI moved up from No. 6 in the West Region to No. 5 in the rankings this past week and is vying for its first-ever appearance in the regional tournament as a NCAA DII program.
Capturing these three points helped CUI keep pace as they have now won five of their last six PacWest contests with their only loss in the last two weeks coming against No. 10 Hawaii Hilo. The Vulcans are ranked first now in the west regional rankings.
Next up for CUI is the regular season finale at Academy of Art this coming Saturday.
