IRVINE, Calif. - Playing for the second time in two nights, the Golden Eagles simply just ran out of gas this time in a rematch against the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds.
Concordia had won the first meeting in a thriller that went five sets up in Fresno. This time the Sunbirds brought their "A" game to Irvine on Friday evening and seemed to find a few openings just inside the line to end multiple key rallies. FPU ultimately prevailed 3-0 a night after
CUI topped Point Loma on the road in five sets. CUI had won nine of its last 10 matches with the only loss coming to PacWest Conference leader Chaminade.
Michelle Feliciano and
Cassidy Gelacio each collected 11 digs to back the CUI defense. Gelacio and
Kennedy Farley each added 13 receptions and freshman
Ally Scheidle led the Golden Eagles with 19 receptions on the night.
Feliciano handed out a team-high 14 assists while
Devin Sivertson and
Kawehi Chang combined for 11 total helpers. SAAC rep
Kirra Schulz led CUI with seven kills.
Twin sisters
Cassie Prior and
Mattie Prior shared the court at times and combined for seven kills and a couple blocks.
The Golden Eagles visit Azusa Pacific next Thursday for a 6 p.m. match before returning home for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m.
