The Green and Gold opened PacWest play with a win Thursday night against Dominican. Sophomore
Teagan Thurman and graduate student
Jasmine Rachal led CUI in scoring on the night going for 18 and 17 points.
Thurman got out of the gates strong as she went for 10 points in the first quarter going 4 for 5 from the field. She also got help from her fellow teammates who came off the bench looking to make an impact right away.
CUI had a total of 23 points that came from their bench in the game. Junior
Savannah Felix-Amoroso led the second unit with eight points and snagging seven rebounds. Fellow junior
Sierra Clark had five points off the bench to go along with three assists.
However, Dominican hung tough with the Golden Eagles even taking a two-point lead going into the fourth period. Â With five minutes remaining in the game, head coach
Christine Collins-Kiernan turned to her graduate student veterans to put the game away.
Katie Timmerman took the ball hard in the paint forcing the Penguins defense to send her to the line. Timmerman scored six crucial points in the last period while going a perfect 4 for 4 from the charity stripe. Rachal was also able to break down the Penguins defense facilitating the offense for her teammates.
With two seconds left in the game, Timmerman stepped up to the free throw line to ice the game. She knocked in both free throws, and with her last free throw it marked her 1,000
th career point in her career.
