AZUSA, CA. - This evening the Concordia Irvine men's basketball team went up the road to take on the Azusa Pacific Cougars. The Golden Eagles looked to build off of Saturday's upset win over Academy of Art and build momentum in the early stages of PacWest play.
In the first half, Azusa's Ken West led the way for the Cougars scoring 14 points to give them a solid lead. Concordia's offense struggled to close the gap shooting only 25 percent from the field. Down 39-17, the Golden Eagles entered half time knowing any possible comeback would have to start with neutralizing the APU ability to get open looks beyond the arc.Â
Concordia and Azusa Pacific would trade baskets back and forth to open the second half. The Golden Eagles doubled their production from earlier scoring 36 points down the stretch. Unfortunately for CUI, the Cougars were able to match their outburst with 39 points of their own.
Azusa would run away with a 78-53 victory knocking CUI down a 2-2 start in PacWest play. The Golden Eagles were led by
Bryce Fitzgerald who converted 60 percent of his shots for 15 points while
Alpha Okoli led the squad with eight boards.
