Eagles Clash With Top-Ranked Bruins

IRVINE, Calif. - Backed by an eager home crowd excited to see its first home men's volleyball game in practically a month, the Concordia Eagles fed off the energy in CU Arena on Friday night against the top-ranked team in the country.

The Eagles played well but No. 1 UCLA played even better.  The Bruins forged ahead to take the first set and ultimately won in three by a count of 25-13, 25-20, 25-15.

Concordia (5-4, 0-2 MPSF) suffered its first home loss of the season after notching three straight wins in front of their home fans.

Uriel Batista led the Eagles with eight kills. Seniors Jon Carlson and Erik Boisvert combined for nine kills while freshman libero Danny Smithers collected five digs.

Setter McLain Mott handed out 16 assists.

CUI hits the road to visit nearby Vanguard on Tuesday before starting a three-game homestand with Stanford coming to SoCal on Thursday at 7 p.m.
