IRVINE, Calif. - For the second straight game, the Concordia University Irvine women's water polo team was neck-and-neck with a NCAA D1 school.
The Eagles took Santa Clara to overtime in their Golden Coast Conference opener and the game was so even that the two teams never held a lead that was larger than two.
The contest eventually went to a shootout where the Broncos escaped with a 10-9 decision.
Tamsyn Evezard,
Nicole Tormey and
Emily Tucker each scored two goals apiece. Concordia was led in scoring by
Kim Reidel who tallied three on the afternoon.
Leading scorer
Madison Ravelo was blanketed for most of the contest but she did hand out a team-high three assists to help give the CUI offense a boost.
Andie Perreira added an assist as did Reidel and Tormey.
CUI goalie
Tatiana Cava continues to impress and had another phenomenal day between the pipes. She collected a whopping 16 saves to help keep her team in the contest the entire game.
The Eagles are home for three games this coming week, beginning with Tuesday's evening match at 6 pm against Virginia Military Institute (VMI).
**Note: that game will be played off-campus at Beckman High School, as will next Saturday's 12 p.m. game.**
