IRVINE, Calif. - Night games are a rarity for the Concordia University Irvine women's water polo team but the Eagles certainly enjoyed themselves in their Tuesday triumph over their latest foe.
The Eagles scored five goals in multiple quarters and ran away with an emphatic 17-10 victory over the Virginia Military Institute to earn their sixth win of the season and third already at home.
Tamsyn Evezard and
Madison Ravelo each scored twice in the first period to help CUI hurry out to a 5-0 lead.
The Eagles led 8-1 at halftime and then both teams played evenly the rest of the contest.Â
Andie Perreira,
Josie Miller and
Nicole Tormey also found the back of the net in the first half.
Allie Gaetano and
Cecilia Smith each scored once in the third to help the cause. Then in the fourth period,
Mauriama Moore and
Kat Cheren each joined the fun with a goal each.Â
Ta'iuta Uiagalelei tallied the last two scores to close out the scoring and help CUI secure the win.
Tatiana Cava and
Kiara Espeleta combined for eight saves in goal for the Eagles. Ravelo finished with a team-high four goals and two assists. Tormey added three points and
Emily Tucker and
Kylie Van Leeuwen also handed out one assist.
Concordia hosts Azusa Pacific in their second GCC game of the season this Friday, March 18 at 1:30 p.m. at Woollett Aquatics Center.
On Saturday, March 19 the Eagles will face Fresno State in another conference clash.
**Please Note the Saturday game vs. Fresno State has been moved from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m and will again be played at Beckman High School.**
