Eagles Cage Cougars With Late Rally In The Pool

IRVINE, Calif. - Trailing Azusa Pacific by two entering the fourth period, the Concordia women's water polo team knew it had to immediately stand its ground and make up the difference quickly.

The Eagles were up to the task and claimed a statement victory on Friday by scoring three goals down the stretch and holding the visiting Cougars to zero goals in the final quarter.

Madison Ravelo scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to move CUI within 7-6.  Minutes later, Kim Reidel net the equalizer to make it 7-7.

Then with under four minutes to play, Ravelo found Natalia Stanard for the game-winning goal and the Eagles never relinquished the lead after that.

Concordia goalie Tatiana Cava continued her amazing play and stopped 10 shots on the afternoon, including multiple key saves in that fourth period to seal the deal.

Concordia prevailed 8-7 and improved to 4-1 at home this season.

Ravelo, Nicole Tormey and Reidel each finished with two goals. Both of Reidel's two scores came in the second half.
