IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine women's water polo team finished off its three-game home stand this week with a tough matchup against No. 8 Fresno State.
Fresh off beating conference rival Azusa Pacific in a thriller on Friday afternoon, the Eagles came out strong against the Bulldogs on Saturday.
Nicole Tormey and
Tamsyn Evezard each scored two goals to help pace the CUI offense.
Tormey opened the scoring to set the tone.
Emily Tucker followed suit with a goal to make it 2-0 for the Green and Gold.
After the Bulldogs got on the board, Evezard and
Madison Ravelo each found the back of the net and then a goal by
Natalia Stanard gave CUI a 5-3 advantage.
Unfortunately, Fresno State rallied with four straight goals to close the first period and take a 7-5 lead.  CUI was unable to cash in on their shot attempts for awhile and Fresno State opened up a double-digit lead to put the game out of reach.
Kiara Espeleta entered in the second half and collected five saves.  This included multiple impressive stops at point-blank range.  Starter
Tatiana Cava also came up with four stops in the first half.
The game was played at Beckman High School.  CUI is now 4-2 at home this season and completed the week 2-1 with their three games in five games.
The Eagles also handled VMI this past Tuesday in a 17-10 win.
