Eagles Outlast CBU For Second Conference Win

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's water polo team played in a GCC matchup against CBU Wednesday and came out with a close win 6-5.

This marks the second win over Cal Baptist in program history with the first being in 2013.

It also was the second conference victory for CUI in GCC play which is the most in a season in the program's NCAA DII era.

Tamsyn Evezard scored the first two goals for the Eagles in the first quarter taking a 2-0 lead after the first while holding the Lancers from a goal. CBU came out to score three in the second with one goal from the Green and Gold scored by Natalia Stanard with the assist from Evezard. At the half, the Lancers were able to tie the score at three apiece.

Back-to-back goals from each team in the third kept the score tied again in the third. Nicole Tormey put the ball in the back of the cage with help from Emily Tucker that brought the Eagles to a one-point lead. CBU scored with about four minutes remaining until Madison Ravelo set up Kim Reidel with a shot that went past the goalie. The Eagles played some intense defense to keep their lead until the end and earning the win over the Lancers.

Tatiana Cava was in between the goal posts the whole game while having 11 saves and only allowing five goals from the Lancers. This is the first time that CUI has held CBU to five goals since competing against each other.

The Eagles are 8-9 overall (2-2 GCC conference) and will play another conference match against LMU in Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday, Mar. 26 at 11 a.m.
