Eagles Split On Day One At the Convergence Tournament

LA VERNE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's water polo team started the Convergence Tournament this weekend by playing Fresno Pacific and La Verne on Friday. The Eagles split on the day taking the win over FPU and then falling to the host school La Verne by just one goal.
 
CUI 13, FPU 6
Emily Tucker gets things started as she scores the first goal for the Eagles on the five-meter attempt. Madison Ravelo shoots one through the goalie as well at Andie Perreira scoring one on a power play. The Eagles are scoreless in the second quarter with Ravelo shooting one with just about two minutes left. Tamsyn Evezard, Emily Tucker, and Natalia Stanard all added a tally to the score with just under a minute in a half left in the first half. Green and Gold took a 7-4 lead going into the half.
 
In the third Nicole Tormey and Evezard finds the back of the goal along with Ravelo adding another three to the score to take a commanding 12-5 lead with only one quarter remaining. Tatiana Cava had eight saves while Kiara Espeleta contributed one and only allowing six goals to get through and finished with a 13-6 win over the Sunbirds.
 
CUI 12, ULV 13
The Eagles came out scoring three goals by Kim Reidel and Ravelo while the Leopards retaliated scoring three as well to tie the game after the first. Tucker was able to score a goal in between two goals from La Verne. Madison Ravelo shot one to the back of the net with an assist from Tormey to tie the game. ULV scored another goal with 1:25 left but Tucker brought it back down the pool to score with just a minute left to tie it at 6 a-piece at the half.
 
The Green and Gold outscored the Leopards in the third taking a one point lead heading into the fourth quarter. ULV was able to hold CUI to just two goals in the fourth scored by Evezard and Tucker while they scored four to take the win by one point with a score 12-13.
 
The Eagles will close out the Convergence Tournament on Saturday as they take on Pomona-Pitzer at 11:30 a.m. and Wittenberg at 3:15 p.m. CUI will be back at the Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center on Wednesday, Mar. 9 as they take on No. 19 Princeton at 1 p.m.
