Eagles Come Up Short Against No. 6 USC

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team started their last series in the MPSF conference against No. 6 USC Friday.  The Trojans took the first set of the series in three with scores 25-20, 25-23, and 18-25.

The second set was a battle as the Eagles took an early lead over the Trojans. The score continued to stay in favor of the Eagles and a kill from Carlson brought the score to 23-21 over USC. After a serving sub from the Trojans, they were able to close out the set by a close score 25-23.

The third set was no different from the first as USC held CUI from going on any runs to advance their score. The Green and Gold kept within distance but the Trojans prevailed and kept their lead in the two sets.

McLain Mott started as the setter for the Eagles and dished out 22 assists while Makai Lipson came into the match and added six. Senior Erik Boisvert was wearing the white jersey tonight in the back row and had seven digs.

Owen Chun led the night for the Green and Gold offensively with 10 kills while Uriel Batista came into the match as well and immediately made an impact defensively with two blocks. Jonathan Carlson had another notable night with seven kills and no errors while scooping up 10 digs. Carlson had two aces in the match that USC was not able to receive.

Logan Glave was the other outside hitter for the Green and Gold and had four kills along with the only solo block. Glave made some impressive serve receive passes and digs during the match that kept the rally going for the Eagles. Middle Gil Herold threw down five kills while hitting a .444 hitting percentage with two blocks while Max McCullough added two kills.

The Eagles will be back in the CU Arena as they look to take on USC in a rematch game on Saturday, Mar. 9 at 7 p.m.
