IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine women's water polo team has already earned two impressive wins over conference opponents this season.

The Eagles hosted the University of Pacific on Friday on Senior Day just two days after facing No. 20 San Diego State on the road.  The Tigers were ranked No. 16 in the country but CUI held its own in its home pool.

CUI honored Mauriama Moore and Kiara Espeleta as graduating seniors before they played their final home game of their CUI careers.

No. 16 Pacific 8, CUI 5

The Eagles played evenly with one of the best teams in the conferece and even shutout the Tigers in the entire fourth period. Each team scored only three total goals from the start of the second period to the end.

Unfortunately, Pacific had jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the first timeout was called in the first, and the Tigers held on for a scrappy 8-5 victory.

Madison Ravelo tallied two goals and two recorded assists to pace the CUI offense.  Emily Tucker, Tamsyn Evezard and Kim Reidel each added a goal to help the cause.

Defensively, goalie Tatiana Cava, Nicole Tormey and Tucker were all quick to snatch at least one steal apiece to limit Pacific's chances.  The Tigers only scored once after halftime.

Cava collected eight saves and Espeleta also made a big stop to the delight of the crowd in the second half.

CUI finished the regular season with nine total wins and an impressive 5-3 home record.


No. 20 San Diego State 11, CUI 6

Earlier in the week on Wednesday, CUI visited the Aztecs for another GCC clash. 

Ravelo led CUI with three goals but she wasn't the only Eagle to find the back of the net.

Reidel, Evezard and Natalia Stanard each scored once to keep the Green and Gold in the contest.

CUI outscored the Aztecs 2-1 in the third period and consistently scored twice in each of the final three periods. 

Unfortunately, one big quarter of offense by SDSU helped the Aztecs prevail.  SDSU finished strong each half and closed it out with five goals in the final period to cement the victory.
