Munaf Scores In Tough Test Against Toros

IRVINE, Calif. - On Saturday night, the Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team opened their season with the first official home game at Eagles Field of the year. The Golden Eagles welcomed the Toros of CSUDH in both teams' first official games of the 2022 season.

The first half was full of energy, proving to be a very physical game between the teams. The Toros struck early to put themselves ahead, and it seemed to spark them offensively throughout the rest of the half.

Concordia responded late into the second half when senior Brett Lux lifted a low hanging cross towards the back post, and Jomar Munaf found the loose ball and struck it into the left corner. Munaf earned his collegiate career's first goal and the Golden Eagles' first goal this season.

The game concluded in favor of the Toros, but CUI found it easier to occupy the visitor's side throughout the second half of the game, outshooting their opponents six to four.

Anthony Morales was the most dangerous Golden Eagle, taking three shots, with one hitting the frame of the goal forcing the keeper to make a save.

The green and gold travel to Cal State LA next weekend, September 3rd, for their first regular season road competition. CSULA is entering this season as the defending DII men's soccer national champions. It will be an excellent test for CUI before they enter their conference schedule late next month.
