LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team was back in action Saturday night, taking on the top-ranked men's soccer program and defending national champions, Cal State Los Angeles.
The first half started with high energy and a strong attacking spell from CSULA, keeping goalkeeper
Andre Flores on his toes throughout the half. Sophomore JomarMunaf was the first CUI to find room to test the home team's keeper, finding the frame of the goal but having his attempt saved.
At the break, the home team had a single goal advantage, CUI's defense stepping up to minimize the damage.
The following half saw a more significant offensive presence from Concordia, with
Alex Perez finding the connection with the ball off a corner kick in the 56th minute, but the CSULA defense blocked his opportunity.
Munaf could find one more shot but Cal State LA's senior keeper made another stop.
The match concluded with the home team adding a single goal, taking the game 0-2. CUI kept the reigning national champs to a low-scoring total, with Flores collecting four saves throughout the night.
The green and gold will travel south to San Marcos to take on the Cougars next Wednesday, Sept. 7th, in another pre-conference matchup against a CCAA opponent.
