Box Score 2 REDLANDS, Calif. - On day two of the Redlands Tournament, the Concordia University Irvine men's water polo finished out the weekend on a high note
In the first matchup the Golden Eagles went up against Redlands in a game that turned into a defensive stalemate with a score reading 4-2 in favor of Redlands. After another period where both offenses were held at bay, the Golden Eagles entered the final quarter down by three. Despite crunch time goals by Callin Chimilar and Connor McElwee, Redlands were able to match them with two goals of their own to close out a 9-6 victory.
Later in the afternoon, the Golden Eagles had a matinee against the Occidental Tigers. CUI was firing on all cylinders in this game, finding the back of the net early and playing stellar defense to keep Occidental from gaining momentum. Entering halftime up 7-3, the Golden Eagles gave their lead some insurance with five more goals to close out the next two quarters. Meanwhile Tanner Powell saved the day, preventing 14 of the Tigers' shots from converting. With a final score of 12-6 in favor of the Golden Eagles, their outstanding team effort gave them their first win of the season.
Along with Powell's amazing performance, Jeff Runyan and Jacob Stuart put on a scoring masterclass in their 11 combined goals. Additionally Stuart's five goals were a career high and Runyan's six added to what already has proven to be a historic season for him.

CUI will host its home opener on Friday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. against UC San Diego at Woollett Aquatics Center.
