BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Golden Eagles trekked up to the Pacific Northwest to take on the No. 23 Vikings of Western Washington. This is the fourth nationally ranked team from the west region that the green and gold have faced so far in the 2022 campaign. Proving to be one of the most challenging pre-conference schedules the program has ever embarked on.
The Vikings entered Thursday evening's game without a single loss in their previous five matchups, even tying No. 17 West Texas A&M earlier in the month.
Throughout the first half, the offensive scales were tipping in CUI's favor, with the four separate players testing the home team's keeper within the first 10 minutes. The danger was minimized by the green and gold's back line in the first forty-five, with keeper
Andre Flores only needing to make a singular save.
Neither team could break the deadlock as they exited the field for the break to re-evaluate their game plans.
Anthony Morales was the leading Golden Eagle in shots and attempts on target, with three of his four forcing the keeper to make a save.
Early into the second half, the Vikings broke through and snatched up the lead off a high strike from AlbinJonsson. The lead was doubled just shy into the final ten minutes when a meticulously placed pass from CUI's baseline found a patient WWU attacker who put the ball in the back of the net on his first touch.
Carlos Moate was subbed on and tried to shave off one goal from the lead, tallying two shots in his minutes on the pitch but couldn't find the frame.
Saturday is the Golden Eagle's second game of their road trip to Washington, and they will be squaring off Seattle Pacific University in their first-ever matchup between the two programs.
