SEATTLE, Wash. - The Golden Eagles concluded their short road trip to the state of Washington Saturday afternoon with a final match against GNAC member Seattle Pacific University. SPU is coming off a 3-3 tie against Point Loma Nazarene, a fellow PacWest Conference school, just two days prior.
The Falcons found an early lead in the 17th minute from a corner kick, but the Golden Eagles were far from out of the game.
Nearing the end of the first half,
Wyatt Burris struck a volley off a
Miguel Pena cross, putting too much power on his strike and hitting the crossbar, bouncing out of danger for the Falcon's goalie. Almost immediately after, Washington native
Carlos Moate found
Klaus Huovila in the center of the box, who blasted a shot past into the back of the net, tying the game at a goal apiece.
Huovila earned his first goal of the season for the program.
The home side responded with another corner kick goal just before halftime. CUI's offense kept par with their opponents, but the set pieces proved a dangerous advantage for the Falcons.
Kyle Miller stepped into goal for the green and gold with just under half an hour to go in the game, earning his first minutes for the team this season. He collected two saves in his brief time on the pitch.
Anthony Morales and
Luca Page were dangerous offensively, tallying seven of the Golden Eagles' 16 shots in the game.
The game concluded with a final score of 1-5 in favor of SPU.
CUI men's soccer will continue their season on September 21st with a non-conference game at Point Loma, taking on the Sea Lions in their first matchup against a PacWest opponent this season.
