Golden Eagles Challenge Biola In Four

LA MIRADA, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine women's volleyball team played against Biola in a PacWest dual on Wednesday night. Going into the match, both teams were 3-1 in conference play and looking to tie Fresno Pacific for third place in PacWest. Biola Eagles were able to finish the match in four sets with final scores 15-25, 22-25, 25-22, and 19-25.

The first set went in favor of Biola as they did not allow CUI to go on more than a two point run. The Golden Eagles came back in the second to take an early 12-9 lead over the Eagles but a couple service aces and attack errors gave Biola the edge to win the set.

The Golden Eagles needed the momentum back on their side to take a set off Biola to continue playing. An ace from Kirra Schulz and kill from Caitlin Jarrell improved the Green and Gold by just two points. The score continued to toggle between the duo until Schulz went to back line with a one point lead. Two back-to-back kills from Cassie Prior and Danielle McCasland gave CUI the win by a close score 25-22.

Biola went on a long run in the beginning of the fourth to stretch their lead by four over the Golden Eagles. CUI tried to rally back into the match but Biola did not allow them to go on any runs yet again.

Senior Schulz had another double-double night leading the Golden Eagles with 12 kills and 13 digs. Kennedy Farley and Cassie Prior both finished with 11 kills and contributed with a combined three aces. Prior scooped up six digs alongside libero Julia Wilson who had 11 digs.

Middles Jalyssa Sanchez and Jarrell threw down three kills a-piece. Defensively, four different Golden Eagles put up two blocks.

Michelle Feliciano led the offense with 19 assists throughout the match. Both Kawehi Chang and Devin Sivertson ran the offense and both had eight assists.

The Golden Eagles move to 6-6 and 3-2 in PacWest play. CUI will be back in the CU Arena as they start a four game home stand against Azusa Pacific on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.
