IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia women's volleyball team improve to 4-2 in PacWest as they took on Azusa Pacific Friday. The Golden Eagles closed out the match in four with scores 25-21, 25-21, 18-25, and 27-25.
Freshman
Cassie Prior had a stand out performance as she led the Golden Eagles with 17 kills and hit .412 on the night. Prior also had her second consecutive match with six dig. Senior
Kirra Schulz was right behind earning herself another double-double with 15 kills and digs.
Kennedy Farley and
Daniela Poles both played a big role in the match as they each had 11 and nine kills respectively. Poles was all over the back row as she finished the match with 15 digs. Poles come up big for the Golden Eagles with two solo blocks and Farley assisting in two.
Caitlin Jarrell was unstoppable at the net as she hit .444 and added three blocks. Senior
Jalyssa Sanchez came up big defensively with three solo blocks and two assists.
Devin Sivertson and
Michelle Feliciano dished out 25 and 26 assists respectively. Collectively the two dug up 14 while Feliciano had two aces. Libero
Julia Wilson was all over the court digging hits from the opposing team and covering CUI hitters to keep the momentum alive.
In the first set Feliciano went on a five point run to extend the lead for the Golden Eagles and held the Cougars until the end of the set. The second set was no different as Prior and Poles went a couple runs to continue the CUI momentum. APU came within a couple points near the end but a service error and kill from Schulz finished it off.
The third set went in favor of APU as they came out fighting knowing they needed to win to keep the match going. The Cougars held the Golden Eagles from going on any runs and did not allow them to get back in the game and forced a fourth set. The fourth set was a battle between the two as the score went back-and-forth all the way until the end. A couple kills from APU tied the set at 23 a-piece until Prior threw down two kills to keep the game tied with the toggling score. A kill from
Danielle McCasland and ace from Feliciano sealed the win over APU.
The Golden Eagles continue their home stand against the three Hawai'i teams in the PacWest conference next week. CUI will take on Chaminade Wednesday, Sept. 28 followed by Hawaii Pacific Thursday, Sept. 29 both with start times slated at 7 p.m. Hawaii Hilo will be in the CU Arena on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 5 p.m.
