HONOLULU, Hawaii - CUI women's basketball opened the New Year with a nail-biting overtime victory at Hawaii Pacific. This victory puts the Golden Eagles at 6-1 in conference play, and 9-4 overall.
Graduate Student
Katie Timmerman led the Golden Eagles with a season-high of 27 points while also swiping three steals. Timmerman also knocked down five shots from behind the arc, but none was bigger than her last three-pointer.
With the game tied at 88 and 13 seconds left in overtime, Timmerman received a pass from fellow graduate student
Jasmine Rachal and confidently stepped into the three-point shot. The ball hit nothing but net giving the Golden Eagles the lead with only seconds left in the game.
The three-point ball ended up being crucial for both teams. CUI ended the night shooting 52% from behind the arc going a cool 10- for-19 while Hawaii Pacific went 1-for-10.
Graduate students
Stephanie Lee and
Lauren Richter also made their impact felt on both sides of the ball for the Golden Eagles. Lee posted 15 points while Richter collected two blocks.
Teagan Thurman added 14 points to give CUI four different players in double figures.
CUI will continue its Hawaii road trip at Chaminade this Thursday, Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m. (pacific time). Click
