IRVINE, Calif. - Senior goalkeeper
Tanner Powell earned the WWPA Defender of the Week Award this Tuesday after two stellar performances in the pool.
Powell racked up 15 saves against Fresno Pacific
to help CUI earn its first conference win last Friday.
He also collected five stops in
a narrow 13-12 win over UC Merced.Â
Harry Bentham scored the game-winner in that contest in the final seconds of regulation.
Powell is the second Golden Eagle to win a weekly award from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA). Earlier this fall, junior captain
Jacob Stuart was named WWPA Offensive Player of the Week. Stuart recently scored career goal No. 100 in that Friday victory over the Sunbirds.
Next up for Powell and all the Golden Eagles are their last two home games of the season. CUI hosts Biola at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2 over at Woollett Aquatics Center.
Senior Night is slated for this Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. over at Woollett as well. CUI will honor its senior class following the game with Fresno Pacific.
