LA MIRADA, Calif. - The Golden Eagles saw themselves closing out the CCAA/PacWest Challenge against Cal State Los Angeles in Saturday's evening contest.
After a great first win of the season, the Golden Eagles were wanting to win against a second CCAA team for the weekend. CUI was off to a great start, trading bucket for a bucket against CSULA in the first 10 minutes of play in the first half. After a great start to the game, the Golden Eagles saw themselves in a hailstorm of offensive pressure coming from CSULA.
CSULA's offensive run ended when
Jackson Tucker hit a three to get CUI back on track. The Golden Eagles had their work cut out for them in the second half, being down after the big run by CSULA.
Getting back in the second half of action, CUI hit two three-point shots back-to-back from players
Kobe Sanders and
Luis Marin. The Golden Eagles came into the second half and had a mindset of executing better on offense and defense with excellent results. Unfortunately, with the lead and run that CSULA built off of in the first half against CUI, the men's team could not come back from being down by 20 points. Despite the Golden Eagles outsourcing CSULA in the second half 36-34. The contest ended with a final score of 65-88 to go 1-1 this weekend.
Some noticeable players who played well for the Golden Eagles are
Jackson Tucker, in his first contest of the year, scoring 12 points, and
Luis Marin, playing 22 minutes and scoring 17 points on an efficient 7-11 field goal percentage.
