IRVINE, Calif. – Coaches across the PacWest Conference voted six members of the nationally ranked Concordia women's soccer team to the All-Conference squads on Wednesday.
Leading the way for the Golden Eagles is a pair of First Team All-PacWest honorees. Former Centennial High School teammates
Gabby Breton and
Layla Comeaux have played together for nearly a decade dating back to their club days and were honored for the third straight year as All-Conference selections.
Breton recently set the school record for career minutes played in the regular season finale, which was
a 2-1 road win over Westmont. She has played in every possible game since coming to Concordia as a true freshman.
Comeaux helps spring the attack by battling for possession in the midfield consistently and helping direct traffic up and down the pitch.
Senior forward
Riley Walkington, sophomore goalkeeper
Riley Urquiza and junior
Olivia Ocampo all made Second Team All-PacWest. Walkington and Ocampo enter the postseason with a team-leading five goals apiece and are top two on the squad in points. Ocampo has converted a school-record four penalty kicks in four chances while Walkington has handed out a team-best four assists. Walkington also leads the team in shots on goal as well as total shots.
Urquiza earned PacWest Defender of the Week recognition three times and was a worthy nominee for Defender of the Year. She helped CUI rattle off nine consecutive clean sheets over the first two months of the year. The Golden Eagles ultimately pieced together a 12-game unbeaten streak and rose as high as No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll. Ranked for the majority of the season, that No. 5 ranking is the highest for the program in the NCAA DII Era.
Brianna Guerra was also a Third Team All-PacWest selection. She was one of four Golden Eagles on the Preseason All-Conference Team and contributed a goal and three assists during the regular season campaign. She has been a weapon on free kicks and routinely helps clear any danger from in front of Urquiza in the box.
CUI faces Cal State San Marcos this Thursday, Nov. 16 at 12 p.m. down in San Diego. Point Loma is hosting the first two rounds of the regional with Thursday's winner advancing to play the Sea Lions on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m.
