CUI Wins Two in Seattle

Golden Eagles Clip Falcons For First Time In Eight Seasons

SEATTLE, Wash. - For the first time in eight seasons, the Golden Eagles defeated the Seattle Pacific University Falcons.

Playing their second game up north against a GNAC opponent, Concordia University Irvine found a rhythm and ultimately prevailed for a historic win in Seattle.

Concordia improved to 2-5 all-time against the Falcons, and this marked the first win against Seattle Pacific in the NCAA DII era of the program. The first win in program history came by a score of 68-60 back in the 2015-2016 season, when Concordia still played at the NAIA level.

In this contest, the Golden Eagles and Falcons were trading bucket for bucket the first 12 minutes of the game. After the even play between both teams, the Golden Eagles eventually broke through the Falcons defense with about five minutes left in the first half. To help the cause, the Golden Eagles had an onslaught of three point shots from multiple players including Kobe Sanders (who hit back-to-back threes) and Jackson Tucker to help CUI end the first half on a 16-6 run. That made the score at the half 48-36 Concordia.

Coming back from the half, the Golden Eagles wanted to build off of the first-half momentum they left off on. This half was different from the first half. The second half of the game was a game of runs from both teams. The Falcons would make a run at the Golden Eagles to get within five points, but CUI would combat their runs every time. Eventually, The Golden Eagles bested the Falcons, going on an 8-0 run to bring the game to a 17-point deficit for the Falcons, and they simply could not come back. By the end of the game, the Falcons were defeated by the Golden Eagles by a score of 84-78.

After a phenomenal weekend, the Golden Eagles won both of their two games up in Seattle and will look to continue their success with another road game against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Wednesday, November 22, at 5:00 pm.  CUI is 3-1 through four contests.

Noteable Golden Eagles for the contest against the Falcons include players Tim Adetukasi, who scored 22 points while grabbing six boards and shot 71.4% from the field; Jackson Tucker, who scored 17 points in the game and shot an efficient 87.5% from the field while going 2-for-3 from three; and Kobe Sanders, who scored 16 points while shooting 4-6 from deep.
