IRVINE, Calif. – Despite a valiant effort down the stretch, Concordia's impressive 12-game unbeaten streak ended on Thursday afternoon against Chaminade.
The first-place Golden Eagles (11-2-1 overall, 6-1-1 in PacWest) had not lost a match since the season opener back in late August. CUI impressively piled up nine shutouts on the way to 11 wins and also one draw against Azusa Pacific.
After a scoreless first half, the Silverswords jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Haley Mo'okini.
Olivia Ocampo cut the deficit in half after scoring in the 83rd minute. Senior defender
Brianna Guerra was credited with an assist on the play.
Concordia had more shots (15 to 8) and a whopping 10 corner kicks to only one for the host Silverswords. Chaminade ( - )scored its second goal on a penalty kick.
CUI is still in the driver's seat with two regular season matches remaining. The Golden Eagles have 10 points while the two closest teams in the standings (Hawai'i Hilo and Point Loma) have 18 points with two games left. Two victories by CUI will clinch the outright PacWest Conference title for the first time in the program's history.
CUI rounds out its three-game road trip out on the islands at Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday. The women play the second game of a doubleheader starting at approximately 10 p.m. PT after the men play at 7:30 p.m. PT against the Silverswords. The regular season finale will be Saturday, Nov. 11 at Westmont.
