POMONA, Calif. – Concordia head coach
Ken Ammann and Cal Poly Pomona head coach Greg Kamansky have coached their respective schools to more than 940 wins on the basketball court over the past 23 years.
Ironically, neither of them had ever posted a single victory over the other during all that time.
Saturday's non-conference men's basketball game marked the first regular season contest between the two programs since 1997. That was before either of these two long-time coaches took the helm more than two decades ago.
Concordia's
Tim Adetukasi was a force for the Golden Eagles. He led the way with a game-high 26 points and added seven rebounds.
Kobe Sanders added a dozen points and made three treys. He and
Charlie Dalton each handed out four assists.
Dalton and sophomore
Jackson Tucker combined for 14 points while
Freddie Dybala chipped in with six points off the bench.
The Golden Eagles outscored the Broncos by three in the second half. However, an early double-digit deficit before halftime proved to be too large a hole to climb out of in the end.
A competitive matchup in Pomona wound up going to the Broncos by a count of 73-63.
The reigning PacWest Conference Team of the Week, CUI gets a week to regroup before opening up league play at Biola on Wednesday, Dec 6 in La Mirada. CUI was just coming off
a tussle with the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Concordia's home opener is later than usual this fall semester with the Golden Eagles hosting Dominican on Saturday, December 16. That PacWest Conference clash is part of a doubleheader with the women playing first at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4:30 p.m.
