The Golden Eagles dropped the second game of a four-game series with the Toros Friday afternoon. After tying the game at 5, the Toros hit a walk-off home run to even the series.
Redshirt junior
Nathan Benefeito led the team with two hits on the day while also knocking in one RBI. One of those hits was a triple to center field in the top of the ninth which scored senior
Hayden Winters.
Stealing home in a game is hard to do no matter if it's in the major leagues or if it's in little league. Freshman
Landry Spitler opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles in the top of the fifth when he broke for the plate and stole home. As a batter, Spitler sent a screamer down the right field line in the top of seventh which resulted in a double and an RBI.
Fellow freshman
Josh Pugh got the start for the Green and Gold and went 4.2 innings with four strikeouts. Pugh now has totaled eight strikeouts in 9.3 innings of work on the year. Redshirt sophomore
Jamison King came on in relief of Pugh and tossed 3.1 innings while fanning three batters.
There was no bigger at-bat on the day for the Golden Eagles than when freshman
Makamae Du Pont stepped into the batter's box in the top of the ninth with a runner on third down by one run. The Hawai'i native looking like no freshman, roped a single back up the middle to tie the game at 5 scoring Benefeito.
CUI is back at home tomorrow to wrap up their series with the Toros for a double-header starting at 2 p.m.
