The Green and Gold hosted CSUDH Saturday afternoon for a double-header. CUI won both games and improved their record to 4-4.
Starting left-fielder
Michael Dixon went deep in the first game, and in the nightcap, he went yard again to propel the Golden Eagles to a 3-1 victory. The Oakland native had a monster series collecting eight hits with five of them being for extra-bases.
CUI 12, CSUDH 7
In the first game of the day the Golden Eagles offense was on fire. They tallied 18 hits which led to 12 runs. Freshman standouts
Makamae Du Pont and
Landry Spitler had a game high three hits each.
The turning point in this game came in the bottom of the seventh and CUI was down 6-4. The Golden Eagles ended up scoring eight runs as they batted through the lineup. In that inning Du Pont collected his first double of the season scoring redshirt junior
Nathan Benefeito and graduate student
Nick Hansen.
Also, in the bottom of the seventh sophomore
Gavin Grutzmacher and senior
Dante Catalino knocked in their first RBIs of the season.
CUI 3, CSUDH 1
There was plenty of offense in game 1, but in game 2 it was a pitcher's duel throughout the night. Sophomore
Matt Des Marets got the start for the Golden Eagles and pitched four innings of one hit baseball. The Glendora native struck out eight batters while not allowing any runs.
Down by one run late in the ball game it was Dixon time for CUI. Battling at the plate and down to his last strike, Dixon turned on an off-speed pitch that was hung in the zone for a three-run homerun.
Senior
Colton Bulger shut the door on the Toros in the last inning for his first save of the season.
