IRVINE, CA. - On Friday evening, the Concordia Irvine baseball team squared off against Cal State San Marcos to kick off their three-game series.

In the opening inning, the Cougars were able to get on the board first with a RBI single to take a one run lead. Despite the early pressure, freshman Josh Pugh, would keep his composure and engage in a stellar pitcher's duel with CSU's Connor Gleissner.

For the next 6 innings Pugh would have a trademark performance in his young Golden Eagle career as 10 of 18 outs on the day were the result of strikeouts. As San Marcos' offense was being shut down, Concordia was able to tie the ballgame with a home run to left field by first baseman Nick Hansen.

Unfortunately, the Cougars were able to break the game wide open with four runs in the top of seventh. The Golden Eagles were not able to respond to the outburst and San Marcos would eventually come away with the 6-1 victory.

CUI will be back in action on Saturday at 12PM for a double header at San Marcos.
