IRVINE, Calif. – Playing with a shortened roster due to multiple injuries, the Concordia University Irvine women's basketball team received an inspiring effort from leading scorer
Jasmine Rachal and her teammates.
Rachal dropped 14 of her game-high 29 points in the first half to pace the Golden Eagles.
Lauren Richter hit a clutch three-pointer with time running down in the second quarter to send CUI into the halftime break up 33-31.
CUI and Biola settled in for a tight affair down the stretch but the visiting Eagles were able to build a little breathing room.
Rachal hit two deep threes in the final minute to draw CUI within one possession, but Biola hit enough free throws to hang on for a 69-65 victory.
Erika Maggard made her first career start at Concordia with a few of her teammates out due to injury. The Mater Dei High School product entered the game averaging 6.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game and responded by helping the cause with 10 points, two assists and two rebounds.
Fellow starters
Katie Timmerman,
Kendall Jackson and
Camryn Kiernan combined for 13 points.
Maggie Teven also provided a boost off the bench playing a career-high 12 minutes and contributing a basket and three points.
