The CUI baseball team defeated Regis University 8-5 on Friday night to secure their first win of the season. Friday's victory for the Golden Eagles ties the four-game series against the Rangers at one a piece.

Nick Hansen homered for the second consecutive game in the bottom of the first for the Green and Gold. Safe to say that Hansen is enjoying being back in his home state of California. He finished the game with two hits and three RBIs.
It may have been little chilly for the average southern California resident Friday night, but that didn't stop the Golden Eagles offense. CUI tallied nine hits against Regis, but more importantly they forced the Rangers to use five different pitchers on the night.
Freshman second baseman
Landry Spitler collected his first hit of his young career when he roped a single to right field. Redshirt sophomore
Cole Quillin and senior
Calvin Schonebaum both joined the hit party while also picking up their first hits of the season.
CUI started freshman
Josh Pugh on the mound against the Rangers, and he came out like a seasoned veteran. The Placentia native didn't show any first game jitters as he went 5.1 innings and struck out four batters while only allowing one run. Sophomore
Sebastian Diaz and graduate student
Mason Metcalfe made their first appearance of the young season to finish out the game.
The Golden Eagles conclude their homestand with Regis tomorrow Feb. 4 with a doubleheader at 1 and 4:30 p.m.
