CUI Women's Tennis Extends Longest Winning Streak in DII Era

IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's tennis moved into rarified air after securing its eight straight victory on Friday in a showdown between a pair of Top 40 teams in the ITA rankings.

By dispatching No. 39 Arkansas Tech by a slim 4-3 margin, No. 40 CUI improved to 10-1 on the season and owns the program's longest winning streak in the NCAA DII era.

The Golden Eagles are also approaching the longest in program history which is a 9-game winning streak set twice – most recently by the 2010 squad that went 17-3 overall.

Tiffany Carrillo and Jessica Bear led the way with a win together in No. 2 doubles and also in their respective singles matches.  Bear clinched the win for Concordia with a three-set thriller at the No. 5 singles spot.

Carrillo also was successful in three sets at No. 3 singles while Sophia Rachor won in three at the No. 2 spot.

Rachor teamed up with Heather Richards for a win in No. 1 doubles while Alyssa Zayat and Alicia Da Re also emerged victorious at No. 3 doubles.

It is the third time this regular season that CUI has eked out a 4-3 victory against a tough opponent. The first two examples came in important road wins at Biola and Point Loma.

The women will be back in action on Tuesday, March 28 against Cal State LA, who the Golden Eagles just swept 7-0 on Thursday.

The CUI men's squad hosts future PacWest Conference foe Westmont on Saturday at 11 a.m.
