Weather in SoCal Heats up, So Does CUI Offense

LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Golden Eagles finished their four game series against Biola on the road and had another split day while going to 10 innings the second game. The Golden Eagles offense was unstoppable the first game as seven of the nine hitters knocked a base hit.

CUI 10, Biola 3
Fresh off their walk-off grand slam victory last night against Biola the Golden Eagles offense picked off right where they left off. In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader the Green and Gold erupted for 10 runs.

Redshirt junior Nathan Benefeito who was the hero with the walk-off grand slam last night got the scoring started in the bottom of the first when he ripped a triple down the left field line bringing freshman Jordan Bolden around the bases.

Michael Dixon and Vito Fowler hit an RBI single in the first inning which resulted in a four run frame for the Golden Eagles. In the second inning, graduate student Nick Hansen continued the scoring when he launched a two-run homerun over the left field fence giving CUI a 7-0 lead.

Junior ace Riley O'Sullivan got the nod on the mound for the Golden Eagles and had plenty of run support. The San Diego native went a solid 6.1 innings while striking out five batters. Jamison King came in to relieve O'Sullivan and finished the game striking out two.

CUI 3, Biola 4
The second game went scoreless until Biola scored two in the fifth inning. Chis Butterfield came into the game in the fifth to right field and made an immediate impact offensively hitting a solo homer to center field marking his first of the season. Hansen hit his second home run of the day with a two run blast to center field taking a 3-2 lead but Biola came to score one in the bottom of the sixth to tie at three a-piece.

Scott Wood earned the starting pitcher role for the second time this week going 4.1 innings striking out three and allowing five hits. Sebastian Diaz came into the game and pitched the remaining game giving up three hits and striking out one.

The game went into extra innings but Biola was able to score in the bottom of the tenth to win by a close 4-3 score.
