SAN DIEGO, Calif. - After two weekends competing in Irvine, the CUI track & field team grabbed their gear and took their talents to UC San Diego for the Triton Invite. Hosting an impressive field of teams and programs and a flurry of outstanding individual athletes.
In her third year with the Golden Eagles,
Khaiya Simpson has been showing significant improvement during her outdoor season, recording a new personal record in the hammer throw event with a 42.95m toss.
Sarah Fajer continues to chase a chance at competing at the national level for the second year in a row in the shot put with a 7th place finish with a 14.07m throw.
In the 5000m race,
Porshe Eismann recorded a career-best 17:39.66, crossing the finish line in third! Teammate
Sara Feitz wasn't far behind, finishing in the fifth spot with her new personal best.
Highlighting the day was
Adriana Gil, who ran a tremendous 3000m steeplechase, climbing to the top of the podium with a time of 11:37.88.
Christopher Victoria recorded two new personal bests on the day in the 200m. He joined his teammates
Donovan Wilson and
Josiah Chin in the 400m race, with all three Golden Eagles recording personal bests in the event—Victoria at 50.30, Chin at 50.74, and Wilson with a time of 50.94.
Freshman
Jackson Szczerba recorded an impressive new record in the 800m race with a time of 1:58, finishing in 25th of a field of almost 70 competitors.
In the 1500m,
Colin Bervig clocked a new record at 4:02, taking third in his section.
In his first 400m hurdles race of the season, freshman
Freddy Matias Vasquez impressed and finished 7th and crossed the line in 56.62.
Ryan Santana recorded a new personal best throw in the discus event with a 41.49m, winning his flight by almost three meters.
The Golden Eagles will be splitting up and competing in two separate meets this upcoming week, recording a few more marks before setting their sights on the PacWest Championships at the end of the month. The green and gold will be participating at the Bryan Clay Invitiational, the largest track meet in the west, against a field of some of the best collegiate and professional track & field athletes.
The Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Meet and Beach Invitational held at Long Beach State will be the other meets that Golden Eagles will be competing in this upcoming weekend.
