IRVINE, Calif. – Five different Golden Eagles from the CUI men's volleyball team have been named to the MPSF All-Academic Team.
Seniors
Gil Herold and
Mason Mullins have earned this award for the third year in a row.
Makai Lipson,
Maxwell McCullough, and
Liam Roberts were also recognized for their first time.
Herold and Mullins have reached a milestone for the Golden Eagles being the first two to earn this accolade three consecutive years in the MPSF conference.
To qualify for the MPSF All-Academic Team, student-athletes had to meet the following criteria:
- Student-Athlete must carry a 3.00 or better cumulative grade point average.
- Student-Athlete must be at least a sophomore academically.
- Student-Athlete must have completed one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the award is received.
- Student-Athlete must have competed in at least 50 percent of the team's competition in the season for which the award is received.
Herold led the middles for CUI with 135 kills and 54 blocks with 18 solo blocks on the season. Mullins contributed with 42 kills with McCullough adding 50 kills and 32 blocks. McCullough was second in aces for CUI with 14.
Lipson dished out 319 assists with an average of 4.14 assists per set while scooping up 62 digs. The Pismo Beach native put down 10 aces throughout the 2023 season. Roberts made an appearance in 16 different contests and had 15 kills and had two key blocks.
