CUI Earns Record-Setting 231 Academic All-PacWest Selections

Baseball, Women's Basketball, Softball & Women's Volleyball Help Lead The Way

IRVINE, Calif. – Concordia University Irvine raised the bar this past school year with an impressive 231 student-athletes making the grade as Academic All-PacWest Conference honorees.

That number is the most that CUI Athletics has ever seen earn this distinction. The 231 honorees were second-most in the league this year and broke the previous record of 218 set by Azusa Pacific last spring. Biola narrowly set the new mark with 235.

To qualify, student-athletes had to:
  • Achieve a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade-point-average (GPA)
  • Complete at least two semesters at their institution
  • Compete at least once in a PacWest Conference-sponsored sport.
The baseball team led the way for CUI with a program-record 32 selections. This was one more than the 31 women's track and field student-athletes who are routinely near the top of this impressive list for our school.

The women's volleyball and women's basketball teams at Concordia each had 15 Academic All-PacWest selections which were the most among their peers in their particular sport.

The nationally-ranked Concordia softball team – which won its fourth consecutive PacWest Conference title this spring – also had the most selections among league softball squads with 20 honorees.

With over 1,800 PacWest student-athletes across the conference making the cut, this was a banner year by Concordia and the league as a whole both in the classroom and in competition.

The two CUI track and field teams combined for a whopping 60 Academic All-PacWest selections.  Women's soccer matched softball with 20 while the men's basketball team had nearly two-thirds of its roster make the list. Both CUI tennis teams combined for 16 honorees.
