Ravelo Named ACWPC DII Player of the Year; Cava & Tormey Also All-Americans

Ravelo Is CUI Water Polo's First 5-Time All-American

IRVINE, Calif. - Recent Concordia University Irvine graduates Madison Ravelo, Tatiana Cava and Nicole Tormey were all honored this June as All-Americans by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).

Ravelo was named First Team All-American for the third time in her career and on top of that was also named ACWPC Division II Player of the Year.  She is the first Concordia women's water polo player to earn that amazing recognition and will go down as the most-decorated student-athlete in CUI program history.   Her teammates Cava and Tormey both earned Honorable Mention and credited with being among the best women's water polo players in all of NCAA DII.

Madison Ravelo is also the first CUI water polo player to be named an ACWPC All-American five times.  The Cypress, Calif. native was First Team in both 2020 and 2022, a Second Team honoree in 2019 as a true freshman and Honorable Mention in 2021.

A graduate of Los Alamitos High School, Ravelo finished her outstanding career with the Golden Eagles with a ton of school records. This includes closing her five-year run in Irvine ranked first all-time in career goals, career recorded assists, career recorded steals AND career points. Plus, this past spring in her final campaign, she scored the most goals in a single season in CUI history with a whopping 113 goals to go with an eye-popping 139 points.  In one of her many memorable performances, she scored a personal-best eight goals in a home win over Westcliff.

Goalie Tatiana Cava led the entire Golden Coast Conference in saves with over 360 stops this season.  She also has her name etched in the school record books and helped CUI win 16 games, three conference contests and a program-best fifth place finish at the GCC postseason tournament.

Speedster Nicole Tormey was a fantastic weapon for the Golden Eagles all season as well in addition to being a force on the CUI swim and dive team. She consistently won the sprints to earn the first possession for her team every period - so much so that it almost became routine even against Division I schools they faced in the pool.

Congrats to this fabulous trio!
