SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Concordia Golden Eagles extended their winning streak to three games with an impressive 3-0 victory over Cal State San Bernardino on Tuesday afternoon.

Concordia goalkeeper Riley Urquiza celebrated her birthday by helping CUI notch its third straight shutout.  She made two key saves in the 73rd minute to help preserve the victory, including a crucial stop that came on a breakaway opportunity by the Yotes. She made another stop in the 80th minute to maintain a clean sheet.

Maddie Lauro found the back of the net on the very first shot of the match to set the tone early.  Sophomore Hailey Havican fed her with a beautiful cross and Lauro tapped the ball in to the goal for her first career goal for the Green and Gold. CUI held that 1-0 advantage until both teams rehydrated at the half in the heat.

While the Golden Eagles played solid defense, the offense looked sharper as the second half progressed.  Olivia Ocampo cashed in on a penalty kick to double the lead to 2-0. Later, Riley Walkington rounded out the scoring by capitalizing on a free kick to push the score to 3-0 with a beautiful boot to the opposite corner of the net.

The result also marked the second straight road win for CUI by a count of 3-0 over a CCAA school. The Golden Eagles defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills last Friday in a non-conference match.

The Golden Eagles return to action this Friday when they play up north against San Francisco State at 12 p.m. 

The next home match for the CUI women will be next Thursday, Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m. against Cal State East Bay.
